Champions raise the bar
My writings have been geared towards changing careers when you are older, but I am going to divert today to a youngster who broke records yesterday.
I was watching the U.S. Figure Skating Nationals and viewed a 17-year-old young man, Nathan Chen, win the event with over 55 points. He did 5 quadruple rotation jumps in his program…
…a feat that has never been done before.
As he reached the halfway point of his program, he had already surpassed the person who was currently in first. And then he did a fifth quad!
What was most poignant was his comment about doing the fifth one.
He decided after winning the freeskate at the Grand Prix final in December (over the Olympic champion) that he needed to up his bar. This was a personal decision, from someone who wants to keep improving, upping his game.
What we can learn from this young man!
Keep asking the important questions…
“How do we raise the bar?”
” What can we do to improve ourselves? Improve our business?”
“What is next?”
Part of starting down this new path is the learning curve is so big: setting up web sites, blogs, twitter accounts, facebook groups…
…the list can go on and on with information about the internet, keywords, SEO’s! But ultimately it comes down to improving yourself, and always asking what is next to do to move forward.
Just like Nathan Chen.
