Change your career, change your paradigm.
Doing research on changing my career, I learned that I also must work to change my paradigm.
My paradigm? A pattern or specific way of thinking.
Ooohhhh…that makes perfect sense.
I need to go from the current way I think, to a way that will line up with my career of being an entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurship comes with a whole new way of reasoning to be successful. My words and thoughts focused in a new direction.
So how do I do that?
- Be very focused on how I spend my time. I need to make sure that I don’t waste any time or spin my wheels on things that aren’t important and find ways to maximize the time I am spending on this new work.
Time is such a vital commodity. It is amazing how much time we squander away and starting a new business, I can’t afford to do that.
Staying focused on my tasks and efficiently get the things done to progress my business each day will be the hardest to achieve.
As many of us do, I usually check my email multiple times a day. I check my Twitter and Pinterest once a day and spend a lot of time reading sports apps. I read a lot of articles that can take up at least an hour! (Luckily I don’t Facebook!)
All these activities suck up my time that I should be working to promote my business…
…so I have vowed to wait until the end of the day to catch up on these things, if it isn’t too late and I need to get some sleep! (Well, I must confess when I am eating breakfast, I check my mail.)
2. Keep my values and beliefs in focus.
Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of how important your values and beliefs are to success.
The stronger your values and beliefs are, the more effective you are!
Values are things that are important to us, what defines our individuality. They express who we are, what upsets us, what we hold dear to us, how we make our decisions.
Our beliefs are how we expect things are in the world, what we think is true from life experiences, cultural and environmental situations we have handled.
Every decision we make are based on our values and beliefs
Why is it difficult to change your values and beliefs?
Because they operate on a subconscious level.
But if you want to improve your life, expand your mind to new ideas, you must replace the beliefs that are hindering your progress with positive thoughts.
For me, those are thoughts of:
My technical knowledge isn’t good enough to succeed online.
How am I going to learn a whole new business?
Is it too late to make a change?
What makes me think I can be as successful as these young people?
But one thing I know is…
…I have a strong, intelligent mind and if I want something badly enough, I can change to make things happen.
It won’t be easy, but each day I can work at it and make progress to get what I want.
Henry David Thoreau wrote: “Go confidently in the direction of your dream.”
I have started, I will keep moving, I can build momentum to get there.
