Changing My Career To Internet Marketing

Years ago I knew I needed to make a change in my career. Unhappy, unchallenged and starting to get depressed, I decided to look at working from home. I took online courses from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, getting a diploma in Residential Planning, adding some courses in Kitchen and Bath design. I thought I could start a career in remodeling, help a construction company or work with people who needed advice on their homes. Well…

…nothing.

Heartbroken is the best way to describe how I felt.     I love architecture, remodeling, re-inventing spaces. This had seemed like the “perfect” career opportunity for me: something I was passionate about. In addition, I joined a couple of online interior design sites, but nothing came of those either.

Why? I didn’t have any references. I understood. Who would want to hire someone without experience?

Not to be dissuaded, I would Google “work from home”, “home jobs”, “online working from home”. There were many options but I didn’t feel very confident in my internet skills nor understood the technology. So I would read but never act.

I finally bought a couple of programs and failed miserably because couldn’t understand what they were about.

This just confirmed my doubts about working online.

Finally last year I found a program that taught me about affiliate marketing and how to work online. Take a look at this ebook: The 10 Questions You Must Absolutely Ask Before Choosing a Homebased Business (click the name or picture to download the book). I think it can help anyone decide whether this is the right route for them.

The most important thing I have learned is that working from home and internet marketing has to be treated like any business. You have to be dedicated, work hard, take chances and be willing to fail to learn how to succeed.

Who would have thought I would be running my own business at 60?

But I love it!

I have found a new purpose. Every day I am learning new things. As someone who likes to read and learn, this is amazing. It is important to find the right products to promote and places to promote them. Learn how to develop your own brand and navigate social networking. These are all new concepts to me but I am figuring them out.

I have a desk full of sticky notes. A journal full of terms, definitions, names, quotes and other tidbits that I don’t want to forget.

I am finding people to follow who inspire me to be a better entrepreneur: Richard Branson, Gary Vaynerchuk, Amy Porterfield, Shaqir Hussyin. For me, they all epitomize being a better person, caring about the world and helping others.

All things I hope someday people feel about me.
